PROSPECTUS

I. HISTORICAL NOTE

The society of the Sisters of Charity was founded by two great saints, Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa on 21st November 1832 in Lovere, Italy. Holy Child School Ranaghat as its name indicates is dedicated to Holy Infant Mary; that wonderful Child, who as she grew was found worthy to become the great Mother of Jesus Christ.

The Sisters of Charity, a registered Society of India, cherishes her memory with great love and devotion through their educational Institutions.

II. MANAGEMENT

Holy Child School Ranaghat is a private Institution established and administered by the society of Sisters of Charity.

The K.G. Section is separate unit from the main stream, i.e., the Primary Section.

III. GENERAL INFORMATION

Holy Child School Ranaghat is a private Institution conducted by the Sisters of Charity at Dayabari, Ranaghat District Nadia.

The school was opened at Dayabari on 17th January 1976, sensing the urgent need of the locality. The school includes classes from Nursery to CI. IV for both boys and girls. Bengali is the medium of instruction and English is taught as the second language in all the classes.

IV. OUR VISION OF EDUCATION

The Sisters of Charity of Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa dedicate themselves to the service of youth, the sick, and the needy, engaging themselves to be a sign of God's love among people in conformity with the charism of the Institute. This institute of the Sisters of Charity from the beginning has developed a profound consciousness that education of the youth is a vital component to the charism of the foundress, St. Bartolomea Capitanio who held the youth very dear to her heart and committed herself whole heartedly to their personal growth and development so that they would become agents of change for a just society.

We, after the example of our Foundress, dedicate ourselves to the education of youth in schools /colleges. We make constant and careful endeavours.

  • To make the students aware of their dignity as children of God
  • Develop their intellectual, creative and aesthetic faculties
  • Cultivate in them love and appreciation for their culture and traditions;
  • Train them to make correct use of their judgement, will and affectivity;
  • Inculcate in them a sense of values;
  • Foster in them social awareness;
  • Prepare them for future career and thus develop well balanced personality for the good of the society and for the promotion of a better world, where love, fellowship and service prevail.
  • At the completion of their education in our schools/colleges, we expect our students to be:

  • intellectually alert - has sound knowledge
  • morally upright - develops moral values
  • patriotic - has National spirit
  • emotionally balanced - Integrated personality
  • socially conscious and sensitive to the needs of others - has social awareness

We seek the intelligent collaboration of the parents and active co-operation of the teachers for the attainment of those ideals and objectives.

V. RULES OF THE SCHOOL

Enrolment in Holy Child School Ranaghat implies on the part of the pupils and parents' willingness to comply with the following requirements and regulations of the school.

1. Children must be present in the Assembly Hall at 7.30 a.m. and join the singing and prayers after which they will go to their respective classes accompanied by their class teacher. Nursery, K.G I & K.G II must be present at 8.20 a.m..

Guardians or escorts must not accompany the children right up to the classrooms.

2. Students who come late must show the class teacher Regularity Records, duly countersigned by the Prefect of Discipline.

3. Children who have been absent from class for a day or two must bring the Regularity Record in the School Diary, signed by the guardian stating briefly the cause of the student's absence.

4. Absence from class for marriage, feast, birthday celebrations or for reasons of study are strongly objected to. No leave of absence is granted without a previous application for it in writing from the guardians.

5. All are expected to take their tiffin in the school compound. Children will bring their tiffin with them. Guardians will not be allowed to enter the school during tiffin hours.

6. Children will not be allowed to leave school before the school gets over.

7. Strict silence is to be observed at the second bell in the morning and after tiffin break.

8. Children are responsible for the safe custody of their books and belongings. All work books and text books must be well covered with brown paper and properly labelled with the child's name, class and subjects.

9. Plastic/Polythene bags/packets/soft drink bottles are strictly forbidden in the school.

10. Water bottles, containers and sweaters etc. also should be duly labelled either by etching or by means of a durable paint or by stitching. Children are not allowed to wear ornaments or carry with them costly articles. The school accepts no responsibility for the loss of these articles.

11. All children must come to school in clean school uniform.

12. Children must bring with them all the articles needed for the day. Guardians should not insist in the office to forward articles to children during class hours.

11. On Saturdays and on all holidays, the office will remain closed. No school business is transacted on holidays.

13. Parents are not allowed to see their children or teachers during class hours.

14. The students whose conduct is injurious to the moral tone of the school or incompatible with discipline may be asked to leave the school.

15. Children absent from school for 10 working days without any leave letter are liable to have their names struck off. They have to be re-admitted in class if they intend to join class.

16. Attendance on the first day of re-opening and last day before vacation of the school after vacation is compulsory.

VI. ADMISSION AND WITHDRAWALS

1. The minimum age for admission to Nursery is 3 years. It is granted only on submitting the application form duly filled and signed along with birth Certificate.

2. The name and date of birth once registered cannot be altered.

3. No transfer Certificate will be issued until all dues of the school have been paid in full.

VII. SCHOOL CERTIFICATE

For the current year:

1. Age certificate Rs. 50.00

2. Character certificate Rs. 50.00

3. Provisional certificate Rs. 50.00

4. Transfer certificate Rs. 50.00

VIII. EXAMINATIONS AND PROMOTIONS

1. Examinations from Nursery - Class IV are held as indicated in the School Diary Half-yearly and Annual. The dates are subjected to change. A student will not be allowed to sit for the examination unless all the dues are clear.

2. No separate examination will be held for a student who is absent in any examination. Daily performance of the students will be taken into account at the time of promotion to the next class.

3. For promotions, daily performance in the class is as important as the Annual Examinations. No consideration will be given to a pupil who shows herself/himself negligent in her daily work throughout the year.

IX. VACATION

There are three vacations during the year - the summer vacation, the Puja vacation and the Christmas vacation.

Saturdays are holidays. On such days classes may be held if there is an unforeseen holiday during the week.

X. SCHOOL HOURS

Usual School Timing

Classes I – IV - 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Nursery K.G.I & K.G.-II - 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Due to severe heat or cold school timing will be slightly changed and that will be informed to the guardians beforehand.

Summer School Timing

Classes I – IV - 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Nursery K.G.I & K.G.-II - 7:50 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

Winter School Timing

Classes I – IV - 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Nursery K.G.I & K.G.-II - 8:50 a.m. to 12:00 noon

XI. IMPORTANT NOTE TO GUARDIANS

Special attention is given to the character formation of the boys and girls and guardians are requested to co-operate with the efforts of the school authorities by:

  • Attending the Parent-Teacher meeting on prescribed days.
  • urging their wards to regularity and punctual attendance.
  • giving sufficient time to see to the diligence of their children in the completion of their homework and lessons.
  • following up the regular test copies and other reports which keep them informed of the diligence in studies and behaviour of their wards.
  • occasionally and on fixed days meeting the Headmistress as well as the class teacher to discuss means of bringing about greater progress in their children.
  • insisting on neatness and cleanliness in their text books, exercise books and appearance and in uniform.
  • Parents' failure to meet the teachers and Headmistress when asked may cause their children great inconvenience.

N.B.

It is not possible for the school to take responsibility of the students who are sick and are yet sent to school. Guardians are requested not to send their wards to the school when the children are sick.

Parents are informed that occasional remarks from the teachers are sent through pages of this School Diary and they are requested to do likewise.

Parents are requested not to give any gifts or tips to the teacher and Group D staff. You can contact the headmistress if you wish to present any gift.

XII. SCHOOL UNIFORM

School Uniform

  • All students must be clean and tidy in their person, dress and manners.
  • Each student must purchase minimum of two sets of uniform and one set of house dress.
  • A student who fails to come to school in proper uniform will not be admitted to the class room.
  • The class which has games and P.T. on that particular day will wear white socks and white keds.

All students must wear the prescribed uniform to school.

Nursery, K.G I, K.G. II

In Summer

Girls: Red Checked frock with half sleeves, red belt, red ribbon/band.

In Winter: Red Sweater, Red slacks and red cap with white two lines bordered

Boys: Maroon half pants, checked shirt with half sleeves, red belt.

In Winter: Red sweater, Maroon full pants, full sleeved shirt.

Class I-IV

Girls: Bluish-grey skirt with striped shirt with half sleeves, red ribbon/band.

In Winter: Red sweater, Red slacks, full sleeved shirt. and red cap with white two lines bordered

Boys: Grey half pants, striped shirt with half sleeves.

In Winter: Red sweater, Grey full pants, full sleeved shirt.
